Heard: the warmest introduction in B2B is a host your buyer listens to every week

Part 2 of 4 in One buyer, four stages. Start with the overview: Your buyers decided before you knew they were looking.

A cold email is a stranger asking for twenty minutes. A podcast appearance is twenty minutes the buyer chose to give you. They pressed play. They listened while driving, running or washing up. By the end they've spent longer with your leader than any sales call would get, and a host they already trust vouched for you at the start.

The numbers

  • B2B cold email reply rates average 1.4-2.1% in 2026, down from 3.5-4.7% a few years earlier. C-suite outreach runs 0.3-1.5%. Warm introductions get 38-46%.
  • Edison Research's Infinite Dial 2026 puts monthly podcast listening at 58% of Americans aged 12+, about 167 million people.
  • Edison's Podcast Consumer 2025 found 62% of podcast fans trust ads read by their favourite hosts, against 15% for social media influencers. A host's endorsement is the most trusted format in the medium.
  • Gartner (July 2025): 61% of B2B buyers prefer a rep-free buying experience. They want to learn without being sold to, which is exactly what a long-form interview is.
  • HubSpot rebuilt its lead engine partly on a podcast network it launched in 2021; podcasts are one of the channels it credits for 90% of its content leads today.

A real example

Fame has booked 2,500+ guest appearances for clients on shows their buyers listen to. The pattern repeats: a leader appears on a show, the host says the words we can never say about ourselves ("if you run marketing at a fintech, you need to hear how these guys think"), and the listeners who were already in market reach out, often weeks later, often quoting the episode.

It is also how Fame started. Before we had a show of our own, I guested on other people's. The audience I borrowed from those hosts became the first listeners of ours, and several of those hosts became our first guests.

Why guesting is undervalued

Most companies treat it as PR: nice when it happens, nobody's job. Three things make it a channel rather than a favour.

  1. Targeting the show, not the download count. A show with 800 listeners who are all heads of RevOps beats one with 80,000 generalists. We score shows against your buyers and you approve the list before anyone is pitched.
  2. Preparation. A good appearance is a prepared one: talking points that match the host's audience, a story the host can introduce you with, and a reason for listeners to look you up afterwards.
  3. What happens after. One interview is a month of content: five clips, four written assets, a LinkedIn post from the host's side and from yours. Most companies get the episode and stop.

How Fame Connect works

  • Show matching. Shows scored against your buyer persona, drawn from the B2B Podcast Index and the shows we've produced or placed on. You approve before we pitch.
  • Pitch pages. A page per guest that hosts say yes to, because it answers the only question they have: will this person be good for my listeners?
  • Appearance tracking. Every booking, recording and go-live in your portal.
  • The content engine. Five clips and four written assets from each appearance, ready to publish.

Why it's stage two

Guesting comes after Influencer because the buyers who noticed you in a creator's post are the same people a host now introduces you to, and the creators themselves are often the hosts. It comes before your own show (Fame Podcast) because it teaches your leader the format, gives you a library of appearances, and turns the hosts into your first guests. Every appearance is also a mention, a link and a transcript on someone else's domain: the third-party citations AI engines weigh when they decide who to name (Fame Search). Heard now, named later.
