Not yet? Be a guest first
"Be a guest first" is the quiz telling you that starting your own show would cost more time, money or attention than you can give it right now. It is not a no. It is a different first step.
What being a guest first means
Appearing on podcasts your buyers already listen to builds much of the same credibility as running a show, without a host to find, production to manage or an audience to grow from nothing. Somebody else has already done that part.
It also teaches you what works on air: which stories land, which questions you are best placed to answer, and which shows are worth your time. If you launch your own show later, you start with all of that behind you.
When it is the right call
It fits when nobody is sure who would host, when you can give a podcast very little time each month, or when the budget is on the lean side. It also fits when you want results sooner than a new show could deliver them.
It is a weaker fit if you want to own the whole channel, or you already have a host and the time to run a show properly. In that case, retake the quiz and see what changes.
What it takes to run
Being a guest is much lighter than hosting, but it still takes preparation.
- The host. Nobody has to host. You are the guest, and the host is already someone else's job. You do need a clear message and a few topics you can speak about well.
- Your time. An hour or so on the day, plus preparation. Doing the whole thing in-house, from researching shows to pitching and following up, takes 10-15 hours of a senior person's time per booking.
- The budget. Fame Connect is $2,000 a month for 2 external bookings, with 5 video clips and 4 written assets per booking. The details are on the Fame Connect pricing page.
A real example: Paddle
Paddle wanted its CEO, CMO and VP of Finance to share the story of its Series D round and its $200M ProfitWell acquisition, and to reach SaaS executives and founders. Through Fame Connect, each speaker was invited onto 10+ podcasts in under 4 months.
The campaign reached an estimated 259,000 listeners, at $0.16 per listener.
Questions about this show type
No. It means your own show is probably not the best first move with the time, host and budget you described. Retake the quiz as things change, or talk to us if you think the answer is wrong.
