Venue guide
Filming at Messe Munchen
The short answer
At Messe Munchen, exhibitors can film their own stand without a permit during official set-up, dismantling and opening hours. Night filming needs a permit, a EUR 80 fee and a guard, and drones are banned. Fame Crew can supply a vetted Munich videographer or photographer with the right written order.

What to know before you film at Messe Munchen
A clear single notice
Messe Munchen publishes a single notice on photography and filming permission, updated in September 2026, and it answers most of what a crew needs to know. Permission for filming the exhibitor's own stand is needed only during night closing times, which means outside the official set-up and dismantling hours, and outside exhibitor opening hours during the fair.
- During official set-up and dismantling, no permit is needed. Work may extend into the aisle only if it obstructs no one.
- During exhibitor hours at the fair, no permit is needed, but work stays on the exhibitor's own stand.
- Only the commissioning exhibitor's stand and exhibits may be filmed; other booths may not be entered or filmed.
- Filming or photographing Messe Munchen staff, including security and cleaners, is prohibited, and any such images must be deleted.
Getting a night permit
Apply in person at the Main Security Office near Gate 1, which is open 24 hours and can be reached from inside or outside the grounds. Permits cannot be arranged any other way. Exhibitors show their badge and ID, while photographers and crews need ID and a written order from the exhibitor. The flat fee is EUR 80 including VAT per exhibitor or order, payable by cash or card.
A guard must accompany you during night closing times, booked through the exhibitor shop or form 9.1, with a 4.5-hour minimum at the applicant's cost. The notice recommends ordering at least 48 hours ahead. If a crew works for several exhibitors, the permit covers only those whose written order has been handed in, so collect them all before you go.
Badges
Exhibitors are responsible for getting their crew through the gates. Set-up and dismantling badges cover crews during those phases, and exhibitor badges cover exhibitor hours. Day tickets or visitor vouchers can serve as an alternative during visitor hours. If you hold a night permit, an exhibitor badge is not needed, and you may receive a vehicle entry permit where required.
Drones, webcams and data protection
Drones are strictly prohibited at all times, in the halls and in the outdoor exhibition area. Webcams are allowed only inside the exhibitor's stand, with a field of view that excludes other stands and aisles and with clearly visible signage.
The notice is unusually direct about GDPR. The exhibitor is the data controller for footage taken at its stand, must have a legal basis for images of identifiable people, and must tell them about the purpose, intended use, storage period and their rights before filming starts. Where consent is relied on, it must be documented. The exhibitor also indemnifies Messe Munchen against related claims. For a testimonial shoot, build release forms into your plans.
Halls and load-in
Most halls can be driven into at walking pace, except Hall B0 and the entrance buildings. Halls A1 to A6, B1 to B5 and B6 each offer about 11,000 sq m, C1 to C6 about 10,000 sq m and B0 about 3,500 sq m. Freight may not go in passenger lifts or on moving staircases, so plan your route for heavy cases. Stand power rules are published in a separate notice on electrical installation work in Messe Munchen's technical guidelines, along with the fair's service forms.
Fairs and choosing a crew
The site hosts bauma, a construction machinery fair held every three years with its next edition in April 2028, and Intersolar Europe, whose exhibition runs in June 2027. Each fair can add its own terms in its exhibitor documents.
Messe Munchen lists its own service partners for photography, social media and live streaming, but its notice also covers crews hired directly by exhibitors. Fame Crew can source a vetted local videographer or photographer in Munich. Give us your hall, stand and shoot times, and we can list the written order and consent paperwork you will need to provide.
Rules change, so confirm them before you shoot. Sources:
