Who is Pete?

Pete Hykin is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Penfold, a technology-based pension platform that helps UK companies secure their team’s financial future.

Pete joined Deloitte straight from school where he worked with a wide range of VC & PE backed and entrepreneur led businesses. He left after two years to join Ignite, a marketing and growth agency for some of the UK’s biggest tech brands where he led huge field sales & marketing teams across the UK & Europe.

This mass hiring experience then led him to Catapult, the first app to bring technology to the world of temporary staffing. As Catapult’s first employee, Pete led Sales, Operations and Product, helping win not just huge enterprise contracts with national retailers and hospitality chains, but bringing the Catapult platform to hundreds of SME’s.

At both businesses, Pete witnessed contractors, full-time staff, casual staff, and finance/HR teams struggling with auto-enrolment and the mess that pensions in the UK was in. Seeing an opportunity to disrupt the legacy providers and address the issues with pensions head on, he set up Penfold in 2018. Pete oversees Operations & Sales and shares CEO responsibilities with Co-Founder Chris.

In his spare time, Pete has a diverse set of interests. You can get him going on pretty much any subject but he is particularly happy to talk about the rollercoaster of US and British current affairs and the utopian potential of AI. A self-confessed ‘all the gear, no idea’ hobbyist, he’s turned his hand with some success to poker, marathon running & scuba-diving.

Supporting Employee Financial Wellbeing in Challenging Economic Times

Inflation is at an all-time high, growth is challenging and employees want more money. But companies struggle to provide financial support, especially in light of the current economic uncertainty. Employee financial well-being is a pressing concern and can affect productivity, focus, and job satisfaction. The pandemic has also changed the priorities of employees and what they value in terms of benefits and financial support.

In this episode, Pete will explore solutions for companies to support their staff in these difficult times. He’ll discuss the shift towards benefits packages that add value to people’s lives and highlight the importance of pensions and financial literacy. How To Create A Pension Scheme Your Employees Will Love

The pension industry in the UK is broken, with 79% of Brits not on track for a comfortable retirement. Outdated technology and jargon-filled communication used by the industry have disengaged savers, with many employees not understanding the value a pension can and should deliver to them in the long term.

In this episode, Pete will share his take on how the pensions industry should evolve and explains the opportunity your pension scheme offers as a means of engaging and retaining your top talent. He will talk about how as a business, you should be caring about the experience your pension provider delivers to your employees, not just returns. He will discuss a new approach that shifts the perceptions of pensions as an irritating line in your payslip to a demonstration of your employer’s commitment to your financial well-being.
