What Your Audience Could Learn
Shattering Silos: How Interdisciplinary Learning Shapes Tomorrow's Leaders

The future of work demands leaders who can navigate a complex, interconnected world, yet traditional leadership is often blind to its own limitations due to over-reliance on specialised knowledge. Despite the relentless pace of change across sectors such as technology and sustainability, which require an interdisciplinary approach, traditional education systems often fail to cultivate the breadth of understanding needed to address these multifaceted challenges.

On your show, Ed will explore why leaders need to embrace interdisciplinary thinking to anticipate and adapt to the next big shifts. Drawing from his experience at LIS, he’ll explore success stories and methodologies that enable leaders to acquire a richer intellectual hinterland, advocating for an education that cultivates range, adaptability, and the ability to synthesise diverse perspectives—key traits for tomorrow’s leaders.

Rethinking the MBA: Is Traditional Business Education Still Relevant?

As the business landscape rapidly evolves, the relevance of traditional MBA programs is being questioned. Critics argue that these programs are too rigid, focusing more on credentialism and outdated case studies rather than equipping leaders with the ability to solve real-world problems. The gap between academia and the actual needs of modern business is widening, often leaving graduates ill-prepared for the challenges they face post-MBA.

On your show, Ed will confront these issues and present LIS’ MBA challenger, a reimagined approach to business education. Ed will lay out his vision for how it can become more relevant, dynamic, and impactful. By advocating for an MBA curriculum that prioritises interdisciplinary problem-solving and real-world application, Ed will help your listeners understand how they can be truly prepared to innovate and tackle the challenges of a rapidly transforming global economy.

Today’s Job Market Demands Generalists, So Why are Specialisms Still Prioritised?

In today’s rapidly evolving job market, the distinction between specialists and generalists is fading as hybrid roles become the norm. Employers now seek professionals who can adeptly blend various skill sets and knowledge domains. However, some individuals and traditional educational institutions continue to prioritise expertise in one area, overlooking the need for versatility in today’s workforce.

On your show, Ed will explore the concept of interactional expertise — the ability to communicate authentically and expertly about a specific area without being a specialist — and discuss how this is critical for addressing the complex challenges of today. He will share strategies for developing this expertise, illustrating how an interdisciplinary education fosters the unique skill set required for the hybrid jobs that are becoming the norm — while also discussing why those who can bridge different domains of knowledge are poised to become the most sought-after talents of the future.

The UK Higher Education Crisis and Strategies for the Modern Workforce

The UK is facing a crisis in higher education, with over 40,000 students dropping out in 2023 alone, a 28% increase over five years. The truth is that traditional degrees often fail to equip students with the skills needed for today’s complex job market, leaving many feeling unprepared and dissatisfied. This alarming trend is compounded by the fact that 23% of graduates regret their choice of degree.

On your show, Ed will delve into why nearly half of Gen Z are seeking degrees that make a tangible societal impact and why 23% of them feel current universities don’t offer suitable courses for their desired careers. Drawing from national survey data and his experience at LIS, Ed will discuss innovative educational models that prioritise interdisciplinary learning, real-world problem-solving, and societal impact—key factors to meeting the evolving demands of modern students and the workforce.
